Lavender Lodge Mural
Lavender Lodge is Lynchburg’s first and only free and sober queer community space. I wanted to pour into their mission and vision with what I had to offer so I contacted them to offer a free mural! I have always wanted to do one and felt that the only way to get the opportunity is to create it myself.
I provided a few concepts and we landed on a sweet and simple design featuring a pastel rainbow and harlequin sky. I faced a lot of challenges with this project with it being my first large scale painting, but I had a lot of support from my partner and friends. Below are photos of the preliminary drafts and the project in process.
This is the illustration draft I delivered as a mockup showing the scale and placement in the Lavender Lodge location.
The halfway point of the mural process. The wall is about 10-12 feet tall so it was very important to have someone else with me to make sure I’m safe. I am 5’3” so it was quite a feat to paint all the way up into those high corners.
And here is the final product! It came out so nicely and looks especially lovely when the sun shines through the windows. I am grateful that they took a chance on me so that I could get the experience and the opportunity to make a contribution to their organization.
